«Golden sleeper» in the new Bözberg tunnel

In early February 2020, the slab track in the new Bözberg tunnel was completed with the installation of the last LVT supports. Traditionally, this was celebrated with the so-called «golden sleeper».

With the new 2.7-kilometer double-track tunnel, an important milestone of the 4-meter corridor on the Gotthard axis, which will be completed by mid-December 2020, has been reached. This means that in future, semi-trailers with a height of four meters can also be transported by rail. The new Bözberg tunnel is the largest single project in this corridor and will go into operation with the timetable change on 13 December 2020. The old tunnel is to be used in future as a service and rescue tunnel. Vigier Rail is proud to have made an important contribution to this milestone with its LVT slab track system.
